Winemakers
McPrice “Mac” Myers
Mac got into food and wine during his early twenties via
his friends and coworkers at Trader Joe’s in Southern California.
He soon began taking trips up to the Central Coast to just to taste,
but quickly found himself volunteering his time on his days off to help
out at a number of wineries. After learning the process for a few years
and spending more and more time on the Central Coast, Mac was ready
to start making wine for himself. It was about this time that Mac met
another fledgling winemaker, Central Coast native Russell From.
Russell From
Russell got his start in wine while attending Cal Poly
San Luis Obispo’s Agriculture program. Intending to become a farm
equipment magnate, Russell began working at wineries mostly because
they were hiring, but it wasn’t long before he ‘got the
bug’ and began a serious study of winemaking. It wouldn’t
be long before he met Mac Myers, and after several discussions, appropriate
amounts of wine, and a punch-up or two, Barrel 27 was born to the words
“Each bottle of this wine represents a dream realized by two friends”.
And so it is.
Both Mac and Russell have their own, independent
labels as well, Mac’s McPrice Myers Wine Company, and Russell’s
Herman Story Wines (named for Russ’s Grandfather). Both wineries
are committed to producing Rhone varietal wines, focusing on Syrah,
Grenache, Viognier and Roussanne.
