2009 High on the Hog White
Our Rhone-style White Blend is back, like the 2008, the 2009 is dominated by Grenache Blanc and Viognier, with all the fruit coming from the Paso Robles appellation. A bright straw gold in color, with a seductive nose dominated by scents of honeysuckle, dried pineapple, and a wet slate mineral note; supported by fragrances of gardenia, lily, Cling peach, macadamia, and hazelnut. On the palate the big, rich body shows off intense flavors of dried stone fruits, honeycomb and candied citrus zests, which evolve into floral and mineral elements during the long finish. Crisp acidity balances out the wine's dense weight and loads of fruit, making this a lively and complex white, perfect with food or on its own.
2008 Rock and a Hard Place Grenache
The most seductive Rock and a Hard Place to date, the wine exhibits a dark ruby-black color with a compelling nose of pureed raspberry, black berry jam, crushed mint leaf, sweet Tellicherry black pepper and cocoa, followed by hints of Chinese 5 Spices, cranberry, prosciutto, warm tar, lychee and rhubarb pie. In the mouth, the wine's purity shines out with flavors of dried raspberry and cranberry, mint, sage, cured meat and fresh herbs, with elements of wood smoke, nori, citrus and smoky paprika. Superb acidity balances the excellent tannin structure and the wine's generous body, yielding a long, pure finish of fruit and spice.
2007 Right Hand Man Syrah
The 2007 possesses a deep black garnet color and a powerhouse nose of black plum, blackberry and black cherry fruits, with floral elements of lavender, candy mint and violets, followed up by notes of black pepper, tarry creosote, cola berry, blood orange and dried cranberry. The dense, rich mouth is dominated by dark plum and blackberry fruit with flavors of Chinese Black tea, anise/black licorice, rose water, red grapefruit and warm crème brulee. The wine's long finish is dominated by fruit, spice and a long graphite and soil note. Great acidity and excellent tannin provide the perfect structure for our biggest Right Hand Man to date!
2007 Bull by the Horns
Our powerhouse Petite Verdot, Syrah, Tempranillo blend has a seductive nose of red and black currants powdered with cocoa, blueberry and black plum liqueur undercurrents set off by wild spice notes of star anise, rose petal, licorice and fennel. On the palate, this freight train of a wine delivers loads of spiced plum and dark berry fruit, supported by layers of Mexican chocolate, Chinese black tea, and blood orange all framed in spice notes of caraway, toasted vanilla, cigar box and sweet black pepper. The pure, powerful finish stretches on to the horizon supported by great acidity and well developed tannins. And still possibly the World's Best Steak Wine.
